Last minute update on pesticide authorisation in the North Zone

Since 2011, a significant guidance document has streamlined the authorization process for plant protection products in the Northern European zone.

In this cooperative effort, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Sweden, and Norway join forces to evaluate applications for pesticide approval, aligning with the Pesticide Ordinance to alleviate the application workload and harmonize the evaluation process.

The guidance document not only outlines how to apply for pesticide approval but also details the rigorous evaluation criteria. Furthermore, specific guidelines have been tailored to the Northern Zone, focusing on the risk assessment of birds and mammals, as well as efficacy evaluation.

Typically, the guidelines receive annual updates around June, with the implementation date set for November 1, 2023. An interesting development to note is the recent introduction of revision 11.1, which was added in September 2023 close to the annual implementation date, expanding upon the original revision 11.0.

The implementation date for the guidance version 11.1 will still become effective from November 1st 2023.

To ensure you have the right version, we encourage you to download the document on Miljøstyrelsens,The Danish Environmental Protection Agency, website.
