Impressions from the Field Department: Mid Sweden (Kölbäck/Östergötland)

About four weeks away from harvest in the first crops, Agrolab staff in central Sweden (Kölbäck) is still busy with assessing fungal diseases in cereals and weeds in cereals, potatoes, carrots and peas. Due to the last weeks weather conditions the general fungi- and insect pressure in the 2022 season is comparably low in all crops. This can be seen in the whole of Scandinavia.

In the 2022 season many herbicide trials in potato were conducted as in the west part of our province, Solanum physaliformis in potato has become a great challenge. Generally, Solanum physaliformis is a growing problem in parts of Sweden, so we are happy that we might help with solving the problem in the future.

Besides trials in agricultural and horticultural crops Agrolab helps with trials in Picea abies against Hylobius abietes which eats the bark of young, planted trees posing a threat for the wood industry in Sweden.
